WORLD AIDS DAY
To commemorate World AIDS Day, the Red Ribbon Club of GDC Kreeri organized a series of events on campus on December 30, 2024, aligning with this year’s theme, "Take the rights path: My health, my right!" under the esteemed guidance of Principal Prof. Kowser Jan.
The event commenced with an enlightening talk by Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Wani, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science. Dr. Wani delivered a comprehensive overview of HIV/AIDS, discussing the causative virus, modes of transmission, and the disease's pathogenicity. His also highlighted the severe health effects and the social stigma associated with this deadly disease, emphasizing the importance of education and awareness in combating misconceptions and discrimination.
A poster-making competition was organized, in which students creatively depicted the theme through handmade posters. The competition saw impressive entries, and the winners were Sabreena Bashir of 3rd Semester, Ruqiya Jan of 1st Semester, and Muskan Bashir of 1st Semester, who bagged the first, second, and third prizes respectively. The artistic endeavor didn’t stop there; students also used the art of Mehndi to paint slogans related to AIDS on their peers' hands, creating a vibrant and meaningful display of solidarity and awareness.
To further spread awareness, a human chain was formed by members of the Red Ribbon Club and NSS students. This symbolic act aimed to draw attention to the importance of HIV/AIDS education and prevention, reaching out to the broader community. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 70 students, each demonstrating a strong commitment to understanding and addressing the critical issues surrounding HIV/AIDS.
The program was expertly coordinated by Dr. Zahid Hussain, Coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club, and Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Wani, Coordinator of the Incubation and Research Cell.
